Conclusion. The 316i's brilliance may be hampered by the lack of outright pace, but it makes up for it with its practicality. The Bimmer will garner a $10,000 CEVS rebate, whereas the S60 and C180 will only put through $5,000. In essence, the S60 will hit the right note with commuters who are after the solid and insulated feel.
Thankfully it only ended up costing ~£2.5k in maintenance in the first year and considerably less in the second year. Fuel is reasonably expensive here at ~£1.25/L (In the US That's about $6.20 per gallon) and I get an average MPG of 19 which in US MPG is about 15.8 so that's something to bear in mind.
Still runs and looks like new. Incredible reliability over 15 years. No major issues. BMW FSH. 325d 2993cc consistently 47mpg. With care currently achieving 53.3 mpg. Brilliant handling and road holding. First brake pads and discs change at 97k.
